Very Disturbing Commercial
This is just a photo of MediaCorp's commercial for "Saving Gaia". I tried to look for it in youtube but no one thought of uploading it yet.
The commercial starts with a mannequin of a little boy with blood-like substance pouring on its head. (It's actually a tar.) Next, smoke comes out until it covers the whole image. Then, a chainsaw appears and starts sawing the mannequin's head!!! After that, the mannequin slowly turns into a real child. Then the message "Think about what we're destroying" shows up.
I was really shocked and I wouldn't want Ashley to see that. I might need to explain every details of it when that happens. Then I wonder if Singapore has television review committee that controls what can and can't be shown in tv. It's so disturbing and I don't really think it's safe to air in public.
I agree that the commercial needs to be catchy to have a wider audience and that it needs a strong execution to convey the message effectively. I understand that they are just trying to address the issue of air pollution and deforestation which is like destroying the children's lives. BUT! I think this can also be delivered in a more positive way. Something that would inspire the audience to be more conscious of the environment and would suggest the things that they can contribute to save the planet earth. I would rather leave the audience with optimistic goal than a nightmare.
